Tom Taylor
My Agile journey began when I was a Project Manager involved in the design and build of a solution for a pharmaceutical company. We didn't adhere to any modality like Scrum and, to be honest, I wasn't aware of Agile or the Agile Manifesto. Yet the project fully embodied an Agile experience - we were a super small team who met regularly with the customer, built and tested rapidly, encouraged cross-functionality, demo'ed and responded to feedback. And delivered successfully on time, providing customer delight. Plus, we had fun.
Future roles had me playing the classic PM function, but I missed the camaraderie of that Agile-esque experience. In another company, an opporuntiy arose to experiment with Scrum on a 'skunk-works' delivery. Again, a super successful delivery. In turn, this led to an Engineering VP to cut his teams over fully to Scrum and I joined in as a Scrum Master (receiving my initial certification in 2012 with Scrum Inc.)
I've continued my Agile and Scrum journey, picking up the Agile Coaching Institute's Facilitator and Coach certifications and have trained in Leading SAFe. I've achieved the CSP - Scrum Master qualification, along with Kanban Management Professional I & II, and Scrum.org's Professional Scrum with Kanban.
I co-host and facilitate the Kendall Square Agilists Meet-up which meets monthly in Cambridge MA. We always welcome new people - both as attendees and presenters.
