Calen Legaspi
About
Calen grew O&B from a 2-person operation in 2005, to where it is today. From the very beginning, he envisioned a firm that learned and applied the best practices in the software industry, and shared these practices with others. Besides his other duties as chief executive of the company, he continues to teach and write on Software Engineering practices.
He has been on the board of directors of the Philippine Software Industry Association (PSIA), since 2008. While there, he has led many programs focused bringing industry best practices to the academe and trade schools, including free training programs seminars to teachers through the Philippine Society of Information Technology Educators (PSITE), authoring technology training modules for TESDA, as well as contributing to other programs aimed at enhancing the knowledge and skills of IT educators in the Philippines.
Calen is also a member of the Technical Committee for Computer Science of the Commission on Higher Education - this is the advisory body that oversees the Philippines' Computer Science curriculum and standards. He has participated in improvements to the country's Computer Science curriculum, as well as reviewing the conduct of Computer Science in various colleges and universities.
Prior to O&B, Calen worked as a software engineer in various firms, often in a research and development capacity, as well as doing a stint as a freelance consultant and trainer. He is a graduate of the University of the Philippines, has taken units for a Masters in Computer Science as well as Business Administration in the same university. He is a Certified Enterprise Architect for the J2EE platform, Certified Web Component Developer, and a Certified Java Programmer. He also co-founded PinoyJUG or the Association of Philippine Java Developers and served as the organization's president for six years.
