Shannon Okey

Writer, editor, and entrepreneur with dozens of books, magazine columns/articles, television appearances and speaking engagements under her belt (including SXSW and O’Reilly’s Tools of Change publishing conference). Strong skills in publishing and event management.

My primary business, Cooperative Press, is an innovative small publisher that takes full advantage of digital and technological advances to promote, create and distribute our titles. In 2015, we launched Readtailor, a library ebook licensing service targeting indie publishers. I also have a decade of hands-on experience managing large events (one of which attracts more than 5000 attendees each year with 100-150 onsite vendors), and nontraditional PR/marketing work (including social media), as well as teaching/presenting to a wide variety of audiences.

Current research interests include applying Scrum, Kanban and other lean practices to the publishing world, as an Independent Book Publishers Association board member who wants to spearhead improvement for both my company and for IBPA members.
