Jim Snow Since a young boy, I’ve been fascinated with computers. In high school, my father purchased an Atari 400 and at the ripe age of 14, I learned how to write my first BASIC program to render the American Flag. I was immediately hooked line and sinker. Shortly after this, I saw the movie War Games and Matthew Broderick’s character provided me with my vision for my career path. I graduated James Madison University with a BBA degree majoring in Computer Information Systems and Marketing. My career in Information Technology has spanned ~23 years. I’ve operated in both private and public organizations and have served in roles ranging from software developer to CIO. I was a developer (largely Microsoft stack) for the better part of 12 years prior to deciding to transition my focus to that of a managerial function. I obtained a Master of Science in Information Management in 2007 to assist in this effort. My recent experience has been serving in a managerial role facilitating and supporting software development teams in technology-based start-up organizations. It is in this realm that I love to live. Since 2011, I have been working in the fast-paced environment of burgeoning start-up companies. The small teams, almost laughably-busy work days, and motivated individuals combine to make this my chosen home. We’re asked to make decisions extremely quickly and rapidly deliver business value. It is in these regards and environments, I believe, that Agile methodologies shine. I’ve used the word “served” above intentionally. It’s my belief that servant leadership allows us to engender and promote trust and continually call upon for the very best out of those with whom we work every day.
