Terri Riegel

I am a Scrum Master for my team that works primarily on an agent facing application that allows life insurance agents to track policies from the beginning to the end and all points along the way.  With constantly changing life insurance products and policy details, our web application is constantly being updated and optimized.  Our team has members in India as well as several time zones in the US.

I am also one of the agile coaches at Transamerica.  I teach classes for new agilests on scrum and then follow through with coaching the teams and scrum masters.  I thoroughly enjoy teaching and helping people implement the best agile framework that works for them.

Although my primary duties in revolve around being a scrum master and coaching scrum masters, I felt the need to also get a certification as a Product Owner.  The role of a product owner is challenging, to say the least, but also rewarding when done well.  I wanted to be able to coach and mentor other product owners on best practices as well as suggest ways to work through the challenges of prioritization.

I have also been instrumental in helping to start and continue a user group called Eastern Iowa Agile.  We have had many user presenters as well as Richard Lawrence from Agile for All, Brian Irwin from VersionOne and Lyssa Adkins of the Agile Coaching Institute as guest speakers.   It has been challenging as well as quite rewarding to keep the user group going.  Each and every presentation give me some new tidbit that I take away and use in my own training and coaching.
