Brandon Rogers

Employment:

• I am currently employed at Samtec Inc. where we have been implementing, practicing and improving upon the Agile development methodology for the last 3 years.  
  • Samtec is an electrical semi-conductor manufacturer, where we develop all of our systems and applications internally.  We have a team of approximately 120 IT resources.
• I have been with Samtec for 12 years where I have performed the following duties:
  • .Net developer
  • Project Manager (prior to our Agile implementation)
  • Scrum Master

Agile/Scrum training:

• I received my Scrum Master certification in November of 2012 and had been working on a Scrum Team as a developer for approximately a year prior to that.  
• Since November 2012, I have continued to try and improve upon my coaching techniques that could directly impact the teams that I'm working with as a Scrum Master.  
• In May of 2014 I attended the Scrum Alliance Global Scrum Gathering in New Orleans where it started to open my eyes up to areas that we have ignored during our Agile and Scrum implementation at Samtec.  For example, we have avoided pushing Scrum out to the business beyond our Product Owners.  Business Sponsors have yet to really buy into the Agile concept that we are working on implementing which has presented several challenges.  
• In July of 2014 I became a Certified Scrum Professional.

Personal Strengths/Weaknesses:  I believe that knowing and analyzing oneself is critical when it comes to working within a team.  Therefore, I have listed what I believe to be my greatest strengths and weaknesses.

2. Weaknesses
   1. Decision making - I prefer to collaborate with others to come to the best solution possible.  I can make a decision if needed, but it doesn't come naturally.
   2. Naive - There are many times that I think I have all of the right answers only to find out that I was missing a huge piece of the puzzle.  
   3. Quick Starter - I jump right into problems before truly analyzing all of the factors, which sometimes leads me down the wrong path.

Hobbies:

• I am the head varsity soccer coach at Providence High School in Clarksville Indiana.
• I also coach for my local soccer club - Southern Indiana United.  
• I truly believe that my soccer coaching background has helped me become a better Scrum Master/Coach for the Scrum teams I am a part of.  Althought working with 11 year olds and high school kids may not directly correlate to working in a business environment it has helped me to be more of a mediator amongst colleagues and be open minded to suggestions.
