About
Devin Seto
I am currently working as a management consultant and agile coach for software development companies.
My last role was Agile Coach and Scrum Master for the Halo Platform, an emerging blockchain company, on a rapid growth curve. In my time with them, I established successful scrum and kanban practices with remote staff and was able to successfully adapt to the challenging nature of offsite employees. It was one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had.
Prior to that, I worked in a health technology startup where I established Scrum as our primary development practice. It's an ideal environment for scrum. With a small team and heavy design iteration, scrum practices allowed us to balance work commitments with the need to adapt to change quickly. We also rolled out test driven development practices from the outset. Since health technology is heavily regulated, we used this practice to ensure there were no exploits in our software.
Prior to this, I oversaw the rollout of scrum practices across a 3000+ employee video game organization, with a worldwide presence. Day-to-day, this ranges from establishing company-wide scrum rules to coaching Scrum Masters, Product Owners and product stakeholders. I have had the pleasure of witnessing the scrum embraced in a highly creative and diverse environment.
Scrum in video game development is a unique experience in that defining "done" for these products requires a high level of collaboration and subjectivity. While challenging, I believe scrum is the perfect way for highly creative individuals to take blue sky ideas and deliver them in a compelling player experience.
As a former Game Design instructor, I find the opportunity to share and learn from others in an emerging discipline to be an extremely rewarding experience.
