CERTIFIED SCRUM

PRODUCT OWNER

CSPO® · Scrum Alliance · 16 SEUs & PDUs

Own the vision. Own the backlog. Set the product goal, order the backlog, and decide what your team builds next — with confidence.

This two-day course gives you hands-on practice with the tools product owners rely on — shaping a product vision, understanding customers, validating assumptions, and ordering a backlog so your team delivers the most valuable work first.

Who it's for: Product owners, product managers, business analysts, project managers, data analysts, subject matter experts, and scrum team members — anyone who decides, or helps decide, what the team builds next. No prerequisites required.

Led by Certified Scrum Trainer & Elite CEC Coach Scott Dunn

Trainer Scott Dunn is certified in SAFe and LeSS and has led multiple companies through their Agile transformation, including Deloitte, Dell, Pacific Life, Safran, Rovi, and NASA. He is one of a very few Certified Enterprise Coaches by the Scrum Alliance — a credential that is peer-reviewed and takes years to attain.

Certification · Scrum Alliance · 16 SEUs & PDUs

Everyone wants something built
and someone has to decide

The problem is…

Your backlog is a long list with no clear order or priority
The team doesn't share a clear product vision or goal
Stakeholders work around the product owner instead of with them
Sprints go into features no one validated with real customers
Your roadmap falls apart the moment plans change
You stepped into the product owner role without formal training

Too much to build and not enough time? Learn to own the vision and own the backlog — and gain the confidence to decide what your team builds next.

What You’ll Learn

Master the Product Owner Role

Build a strong foundation in scrum and what the product owner truly owns.

Scrum Foundations

Learn the framework, values, and principles that make scrum work, and where the product owner fits alongside the scrum master and developers.

Product Owner Core Competencies

Understand the decisions the role owns — order, scope, and trade-offs — and how to work with stakeholders without becoming a bottleneck.

Goal Setting & Planning

Craft a product vision and product goal the team can rally behind, then turn them into a roadmap and release plan that adapts as you learn.

What You’ll Practice

Turn Customer Insight into Value

Move beyond theory with hands-on simulations using the tools product owners rely on.

Understanding Customers & Users

Segment customers, describe their needs and pains, and connect the team directly to the people they’re building for.

Validating Product Assumptions

Spot the riskiest assumptions in your plan and test them cheaply before the team invests sprints of work in them.

Working with the Product Backlog

Create, refine, and order a backlog so the team consistently delivers the most valuable work first.

FAQ

Are there any prerequisites?

No. CSPO is the first step on the Scrum Alliance product owner track, and no prior certification or scrum experience is required.

Is there an exam?

No exam. Attend and take part in both days, and your CSPO is issued to your Scrum Alliance account after class.

What credential do I receive after completing this course?

You’ll earn the Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) certification from Scrum Alliance, along with an official digital badge, a two-year Scrum Alliance membership, and 16 SEUs and 16 PDUs.

Should I take CSM or CSPO?

It depends on your role. Certified ScrumMaster focuses on coaching a team to use scrum and keep improving. CSPO focuses on the product — setting the vision, managing the backlog, and deciding what the team builds next. Many people eventually take both.

How is the class delivered?

This is two full days of live, interactive training over Zoom — not a pre-recorded video. You’ll practice through hands-on exercises and realistic scenarios throughout both days.
