Certified Scrum Product Owner workshop with Aaron Kopel, Project Brilliant

Certified Scrum Product Owner® · 2-Day Workshop

The CSPO class people still talk about years later.

Markers instead of slides. Conversations instead of lectures. You leave with your certification, a workbook full of your own thinking, and a clear plan for what to do on Monday.

Why this class feels different

Most certification classes feel like reading a manual out loud. This one feels like a working session with a sharp colleague who happens to carry a fistful of markers.

✓ Drawn live, not read off slides. Aaron sketches every idea on a flip chart as the group builds it together. You watch the whole picture come together, and that is why you remember it. No PowerPoint. Ever.
✓ You do the work in the room. Short bursts of teaching, then you practice: games, real product problems, and the tough calls product owners face every week.
✓ A workbook that is unfinished on purpose. You get a printed workbook at the start of class. You fill it in as you go, so you leave with notes in your own words instead of a slide deck you will never open.
✓ Built for real organizations. Stories and examples come from enterprise teams Aaron has worked with, where budgets, politics, and legacy systems are part of the job.

What you will be able to do

  • Turn a fuzzy idea into a product vision your team and stakeholders can repeat back to you
  • Decide what to build next, and what to say no to, based on value instead of volume
  • Break big requests into small pieces your team can deliver and learn from quickly
  • Work with stakeholders who all believe their request is number one
  • Measure outcomes (what changed for customers) instead of just output (what shipped)
  • Use AI tools to speed up discovery, writing, and prioritizing without handing over your judgment

What past students say

★★★★★ Rated 5.0 out of 5 by more than 10,000 people trained over 10 years.

A full class smiling around the city they built together during a hands-on exercise

“I didn't think it was possible to train people without PowerPoint, but here it is. Never a PowerPoint slide in sight. It was all exercises and talking with each other. The two days just flew by, and I was a little sad it was over so fast!”

Jamie S., Product Owner, Salesforce

“I was very intimidated coming in as the only non-experienced person from my company. The content was extremely beneficial and the facilitator made it a very safe, collaborative, and friendly environment. It was great!”

Emily C., Product Owner, Farm Bureau Insurance

“The energy, the pace, the environment, the collaboration, the trainer, the discussions, the hand-drawn visuals, the workbook, the timing, and even learning how to properly tear a post-it note off a pad... it was all absolutely perfect.”

Josh B., IT Leader, Fox Sports

“Extremely professional and educational course... by far the best I have been a part of. The coaches take time to make sure everyone in class understands concepts and fills the course with a great deal of team activity. Best of all no PowerPoint slides. Highly recommend!”

Eric P., IT Director, PNC Bank

“Best training of any kind I've ever experienced. And it IS an experience! Everything is choreographed for a purpose - to enhance the learning, long term retention, and to make it all fun.”

Melanie B., Scrum Master, Capital One Financial

“I completely misunderstood the mindset of Agile and Scrum for 10 years. No wonder it never felt right to me... we were just totally off the mark, even though we thought we were doing all the important parts. This 2-days set me on a new path. Now I get it, and I'll never look back!”

Stephanie M., Tech Lead, Staples

“It brought us together to have the deeper conversations that we never take time for in our hectic day-to-day work environment. We were able to focus and think clearly about our "why", really understand each other's intent, and talk about how all the pieces fit together.”

Larry A., Vice President, MedXcel

Frequently asked questions

Is there a test?

No. The CSPO® does not have an exam. You earn your certification by attending both full days and taking part in the class. After class, Scrum Alliance emails you to accept your certification.

Do I need any experience first?

No. The class works for people brand new to product work and for experienced product owners who want to sharpen their approach. The mix is part of what makes the conversations good.

Should I take CSM or CSPO first?

Pick the one closest to your job. If you decide what gets built, start with CSPO. If you help a team work well together, start with CSM. Many people take both, and we are happy to help you choose.

When do I get my workbook?

On day one. Your printed workbook is handed out when class starts, so there is nothing to bring or wait for.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

Life happens. You get a full refund if you cancel at least 7 days before class, and you can transfer to any future class at no charge, anytime.

Can I bring my whole team?

Yes, and we encourage it. For groups, we also run private classes for a single organization, in person or live online, tailored to your products and challenges. Reach out and we will put together options.

Still have questions?

Introductions & agenda Meet the group and set goals for the two days
Why Agile? What changed in how work gets done, and why the old playbook struggles
What is Agile? The mindset and values underneath it all, in plain language
Products, not projects Why the shift matters and what changes for you
The product owner role What the job is, what it is not, and how it works with the team and leaders
Vision and strategy Draw a product vision people can actually remember
Customers and stakeholders Map who matters, what they need, and how to keep them aligned
Discovery Test ideas cheaply before you spend real money on them
Day 2  The how and the Monday plan
Building the backlog Write clear backlog items and keep the list healthy
Ordering by value Decide what comes first, and say no without starting a war
Slicing big work Turn large requests into small, valuable pieces
Roadmaps and releases Plan in a way that survives contact with reality
Measuring value Track outcomes, not just what shipped
AI for product owners Practical ways to use AI in discovery, writing, and prioritizing
Your Monday plan Leave with specific next steps for your own product

This class is for you if you are the person who has to decide what gets built next, or you are about to be.

Product owners and product managers
New to the role, or experienced and ready to make it official and sharpen your approach.
Business analysts and project managers
Moving from "gather the requirements" to "own the outcome."
IT leaders, directors, and portfolio owners
Responsible for where the money and the people go, and tired of everything being priority one.
Business partners who work closely with IT
Marketing, operations, finance, and other leaders who want to get more value from the teams building for them.
Scrum Masters and team leads
Who want to understand the product side of the conversation and partner better with their product owner.

No prior experience required. If you have worked on or with a team that builds things, you are ready.

Bringing your team? Learning together is the fastest way to change how a team works. Ask us about private classes for your organization.

Be there, all of it

Scrum Alliance requires full attendance for certification, so plan to join both days from start to finish. Please clear your calendar for both days.
