Enterprise Agility: Align Culture & Structure to Deliver Results, Live Online Course, The Gorilla Coach

Finding the problem is not the hard part. The hard part is knowing what to do about it.

Most Agile coaches can describe what's wrong. They can feel the resistance, name the friction, and point to where things slow down. What's harder is understanding why the organization is built that way, what's holding the structure in place, and what a well-designed response actually looks like.

This course moves you from observation to action. You'll apply systems thinking to organizational assessment, work through three foundational models of change, and design adaptive interventions that account for culture, structure, and resistance, not as abstract concepts, but as forces you can analyze and work with.

One distinction worth naming: growth and organizational development are not the same thing. This course treats that difference seriously.

Who This Is For

Most change efforts fail for the same reason: they focus on the technical side of what's changing and skip the people side of how it lands. That gap is measurable. Prosci's research, drawn from more than 2,600 change practitioners, found that projects with excellent change management are nearly seven times more likely to meet their objectives than those with poor change management, 88% success versus just 13%. This course is built to close that gap.

This course is for anyone who acts as a change agent inside their organization, whatever your title. That includes Scrum Masters and Agile Coaches, Program and Project Managers, Product Owners and Product Managers, and Front Line Managers and Team Leads, among many others.

What matters isn't your title. It's whether you're ready to design change that survives contact with the org chart.

What You'll Learn

By the end of the course, you'll be able to:

  • Apply systems thinking to design a structured organizational assessment
  • Analyze assessment data to identify meaningful patterns and root causes
  • Compare three foundational change management models and choose the right one for your context
  • Diagnose resistance patterns and design at least three mitigation approaches
  • Distinguish between culture and structure, and identify which one actually needs to shift
  • Design an adaptive, iterative change roadmap with feedback loops built in
  • Analyze the connection between psychological safety, culture, and value delivery

Joel Bancroft-Connors, The Gorilla Coach

Joel Bancroft-Connors, CST® | CTC® | PMP | PMI-ACP
The Gorilla Coach, LLC

Joel is a contributing reviewer on Enterprise Agility for Scrum Alliance, and the perspective behind it comes from more than twenty years watching the same pattern play out inside large organizations: a team improves, the organization around them doesn't, and the friction comes right back. This course is built around the question that pattern raises: why does the system resist change, and what do you actually do about it?

As a Certified Scrum Trainer (CST®) and Certified Team Coach (CTC®), Joel's mission is building more sustainable companies for a better world. He's known as the Gorilla Coach for his reputation for helping teams and organizations face the uncomfortable problem no one wants to name, the gorilla in the room, and deal with it directly. Unlike many agile trainers who come up through a purely technical background, Joel spent years in customer service, QA, product management, and project management before he ever entered the agile world, and he brings that full delivery lens to facilitation and coaching.

He's not teaching theory. He's teaching what he's had to learn the hard way about why organizations are built the way they are.

Consider Taking Optimizing Value Streams First

Enterprise Agility is about changing the system. That work lands differently when you're bringing real observations to it, not hypothetical ones. Optimizing Value Streams teaches you to read a value stream, surface where value is lost, and name what you're seeing clearly enough that others can act. One course builds the diagnostic skill. The other gives you somewhere to take it.

What this course covers

Across a single 8-hour day, we'll move through four core modules, each one building toward the skills to diagnose an organization and design a change that actually sticks.

  1. Systems Thinking and Organizational Assessment — Learn to see organizational problems as systems, not isolated events, and apply that lens to design a structured assessment: where to look, what to ask, and how to read what you find.
  2. Change Models and Resistance Patterns — Compare three foundational change models, Lewin's, Kotter's, and Burke-Litwin, to choose the right one for your context, and learn to diagnose resistance patterns before they derail the work.
  3. Designing the Change Roadmap — Build an adaptive, iterative roadmap with real feedback loops, and connect the dots between culture, how people act, and structure, how the organization is built, to know which one actually needs to shift.
  4. Organizational Development and Coaching — Move beyond growth to true organizational development: assess capability gaps, design coaching interventions, and understand what psychological safety has to do with delivering value.

Who Should Attend

Most change efforts fail for the same reason: they focus on the technical side of what's changing and skip the people side of how it lands. That gap is measurable. Prosci's research, drawn from more than 2,600 change practitioners, found that projects with excellent change management are nearly seven times more likely to meet their objectives than those with poor change management, 88% success versus just 13%. This course is built to close that gap.

This course is for anyone who acts as a change agent inside their organization, whatever your title:

  • Scrum Masters and Agile Coaches ready to move from team-level facilitation to organizational-level diagnosis
  • Program and Project Managers who need change to actually stick, not just launch
  • Product Owners and Product Managers navigating resistance to new ways of working
  • Front Line Managers and Team Leads translating strategy into behavior change on the ground
  • Anyone else who owns how change moves through their organization, formally or not

What matters isn't your title. It's whether you're ready to design change that survives contact with the org chart.
