Why take this course

By the time a Scrum Master reaches CSP-SM, the team usually runs Scrum well enough. The problems left are bigger than the team: the impediment that lives three levels up, the conflict nobody names, the retrospective that keeps finding the same cause.

CSP-SM works on those, through coaching and facilitation practice rather than lecture.

What you will be able to do afterwards

  • Coach a team through its own problem instead of solving it for them.
  • Take an impediment the team cannot fix to the leader who can, in their terms: cost, risk, delay.
  • Work a conflict in the room, before it goes underground.
  • Find the cause behind a problem that comes back every sprint, and change something in the system.
  • Support several teams without becoming the bottleneck between them.

What your seat includes

  • Live and online with Mark, capped at 12 seats.
  • Two years of Scrum Alliance membership.
  • Lifetime coaching with Mark. Email him, book a call, bring him the impediment that lives three levels above the team. There is no end date on it.
  • Hundreds of downloadable resources, kept current after you leave.
  • A money-back guarantee.

How the time is spent

Live and online, through group and individual exercises and coaching practice rather than slides.

Coaching

  • Coaching, teaching and facilitating, and when to switch between them.
  • Coaching individuals, teams and the leaders around them.
  • Psychological safety and what it does to team performance.

The system around the team

  • Systemic impediments, and raising them with the leaders who can remove them.
  • Conflict and resistance, handled in the room.
  • Speaking to executives in their terms: cost, risk and delay.

More than one team

  • Supporting several teams without becoming the bottleneck.
  • Scrum across multiple teams, and what has to change as it grows.

Who this is for

  • Experienced Scrum Masters who want to work on the problems beyond the team.
  • Agile Coaches and change leads working across teams and with leadership.
  • Scrum Masters supporting several teams or working in a large organization.

Prerequisites

Scrum Alliance requires an A-CSM and at least two years of experience as a Scrum Master.

Who is teaching it

Mark Palmer is a Certified Scrum Trainer and a Certified Team Coach, a pairing most trainers do not hold. He has coached and trained at Capital One, State Street, Anthem, Phillips 66, SWIFT, and federal agencies in Defense, Justice, and Transportation. Before that he held the jobs his students hold, at Advance Auto Parts, Prison Fellowship, FamilyLife, and WMATA. He teaches every Great Fish class himself.

What is different about this class

  • Twelve seats. Small enough that you are coaching, not watching.
  • Your own problems are welcome. Bring the situation you are stuck on; the exercises use it.
  • Coaching that outlasts the class. No end date, and it is with Mark rather than a support desk.
