Jorge Walters

Jorge Walters is COO of uPlanner, a company that seeks to impact education through AI-based solutions for Higher Education institutions.

Formerly CTO of the Santiago Transit Authority (2016-2017) and Team Leader of the Chilean Development group for SciVal (2009-2015), a suite of Elsevier's products, he also served as General Director of Knowledge Management at Universidad de Las Américas (2008), being responsible for Academic Internet Services and the Library System.

Also, he taught Knowledge Management at the Computer Science Department of the University of Chile (postgraduate course).

He was one of the pioneers of the Internet in Chile, participating in the initiation of Tecnonaútica Ltda. (one of the first Internet-based software companies in the country) and in the initial efforts to adopt the Web in the Chilean Government through his position in the National Commission of Scientific and Technological Research (CONICYT), back in 1994.

Before his current position, Jorge worked within CONICYT as technical advisor and Director of the Scientific Information Department (2005-2007) and previously as an information specialist for the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO, 2000-2004), being the coordinator of the methodologies and information technologies group at the Latin-American and Caribbean Center on Health Sciences Information (BIREME/PAHO).
