Ignasi Barri Vilardell
About
(Ignasi Barri Vilardell, Lleida, 1985 – España) Nowadays I’m a Research Project Manager at Indra and associate professor in the University of Lleida. I obtained my PhD in March 2012; specialized in the Efficient Execution of MMOG in Hybrid Architectures. My other studies are: Postgraduate in Open Source Engineering, Bachelor in Computer Science (specialized in Systems Administration) and Bachelor in Business Administration.
In 2003 I get involved in the University; I’ve not been apart from this world again. I have been always linked with the education and research fields, both at College (university in Spain). This strong relationship allows me working in a national research project in collaboration with Indra, where we explore the world of JXTA, a framework to develop distributed architectures implemented by SUN Microsystems. We was trying to create a low-cost supercomputer, using the idle computational resources of computers connected to Internet, in order to resolve high complexity problems … you know, a P2P Computing System.
I’m always thinking new technological ways to solve problems or to provide new services … for instance, tracking the products or logos which appear in photos and videos of Internet (Youtube, Flickr, Instagram, Twitter…) and propose a new business model to promote brands or products… I know is possible, maybe taking advantage of Amazon’ mechanical turk service… but one step forward will be doing it automatically through artificial vision. This and others ideas are always “bombing” my head.
My colleagues define me as a happy, decided, creative and dynamic guy. Maybe I’m dynamic because I love playing sports: soccer, paddle, supercross, mountain bike… My advisors define me as a good speaker, maybe because I love talk about a concept to other people and make the explanation interesting and understandable. About myself, I can enhance my methodology, I’m organized and I love technology trying to think new ways to apply them to society. All these characteristics, more or less, define me as a good worker and good colleague.
