Biography

Gilberto Urueta.

Certified Scrum Master, Product Owner and Certified Scrum Professional. After making my studies and my master in Software Engineering, I decided to change my role. For the last 4 years I have been working in helping other teams to understand Agile and its benefits. For creating a transition in the way they work I've use the Scrum framework which has given great results. Currently I'm helping my company Takeaway.com to transform the whole organization into an agile organization. Together with a team of scrum masters we are looking for organizational impediments to try to solve them together with our teams and Stakeholders. Because of the size of the company this is a great challenge that requires great knowledge on solving complex problems. Personally, I'm interested in process improvement and complexity theory. I think it is really important to understand where does Scrum comes from and how Scrum presents an alternative to solve complex problems by moving them into a complicated domain. Scrum wasn't created just after a meeting of really smart people but it was the result of analyzing what we currently know about complexity theory.

Work experience

Takeaway, Scrum Master
July 2016 - Present, Berlin, Berlin, Germany
Scrum Master for Takeaway.com. Currently I'm helping my company Takeaway.com to transform the whole organization into an agile organization. Together with a team of scrum masters we are looking for organizational impediments to try to solve them together with our teams and Stakeholders. At the same time I'm working together with two different groups of motivated people that want to learn how to become a team and achieve high performance.

Adviqo, Scrum Master / Agile Coach
May 2015 - July 2016, Berlin, Berlin, Germany
During my time at Adviqo I worked on establishing attractors and enablers tro help to improve communication and team work. Our teams were responsible for the maintenance of the main site while other teams worked in a refactoring of the whole system to make it more stable. My main tasks were working with 2 teams helping and coaching them with the goal of becoming agile by using self-organization and ceremonies that Scrum provides. It was a great time with great people.

Global Leads Group , Lead Developer / Agile Coach
September 2011 - May 2015, Berlin, Berlin, Germany
Together with our international team we developed web applications following Lean and Agile principles and the framework Scrum. We started with ten people and we scaled to almost seventy. My role of lead developer changed after one year into a job of agile coach/scrum master. As an agile coach besides using Scrum for our daily work, we worked in improving the whole company atmosphere using agile techniques. Continuous feedbacks and small experiments were used to change the direction of the company into a more self-managed environment.

Articles I've written

Top 10 Mistakes Scrum Teams Make
There are typical mistakes that disrupt a Scrum team, preventing them from reaching their best level of performance. Because they don't always surface early on, they are difficult to prevent and even to detect. I keep this list of mistakes written down so that my teams can better avoid them.

Bringing Scrum Back to Life
If your team is having problems and you want to bring Scrum back to life, maybe the best thing to do is to let it "die" first, and then bring it back to life by using a new name or metaphor.
