Björn Jensen holds a degree in Computer Science from the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg, Germany. He has been working in IT since 1999 and began his agile journey in early 2000 as a developer, coming into contact with Extreme Programming and Pragmatic Programming.
In 2005, Björn introduced Scrum for the first time and worked in a multi-team setting, where several distributed teams across different countries collaborated on a single product. This marked the beginning of his experience with agile at scale.
By 2007, he was experimenting with Feature-Driven Development, and in 2008, practices emerged in his environment that would later be known as Large Scale Scrum (LeSS). Around 2010, now well established in the agency and consulting space, he began using Kanban professionally.
Over the years, Björn has worked with various scaling frameworks including the Spotify Model, Nexus, Scrum@Scale, and even SAFe. However, for him, the specific framework is secondary—what truly matters is helping teams and organizations create better products through meaningful collaboration and a clear sense of purpose.
His career has taken him through a variety of roles: developer, tester, build and release manager, configuration manager, project lead, and head of development. He has worked with companies ranging from small startups to large, globally distributed enterprises.
Björn is the founder and leader of the Java User Group Hamburg (JUGHH) and the Android User Group Hamburg, as well as a founding member of the JetBrains Academy of Development.
Outside of the tech world, Björn is an experienced bass player and passionate musician. His musical background deeply influences his coaching style: just like in a good band, he helps teams and organizations find their own groove—the unique rhythm and flow that enables them to perform at their best, in harmony and with energy.
Today, Björn works worldwide as an agile coach and trainer. He lives in Hamburg with his wife and two children. His personal interests include community building, agile engineering practices, lean and agile thinking, collaboration techniques, coaching, Ruby programming—and of course, music and martial arts.
