National Information Solutions Cooperative (NISC), Scrum Master
July 2003 - December 2011, Mandan, ND, US
Scrum Master & Agile Evangelist I worked at NISC as the Innovation Lead in the RD&Q department. Being Innovation Lead I did my best to stay abreast of any technologies, methodologies and knowledge areas that would help me lead and manage my projects. I learnt about Agile from friends and read several books on it. I was very impressed and decided to implement it. However rather than call out for a big change I started it at the grass roots level. In June 2011 I had sessions with one of my teams (team size 4) and explained the Agile methodology. They liked but saw resistance from other departments. I spoke to other department heads about a process we are trying out to make us better respond to customer needs and bring more transparency to deliverables. We were already having meetings to review defects and enhancements. I converted it to an iteration planning meeting. Had daily standups with the teams. We had our commits, retrospectives. I introduced it to a second team and had similar success. Soon I started receiving emails from department heads and leads that over teams are doing very well with the new processes.
