Work experience

Waseel ASP Ltd., Engineering Manager
July 2010 - Present, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

My responsibilities as an engineering manager at Waseel include spearheading four sub-teams, namely development (DEV), systems (SYS), technical operations (TO), quality control (QC). As sole lead of four sub-teams, I have managed to facilitate DevOps-style collaborative working environment between the teams, which originally worked as silos. I overlook all activities from development to deployment and from operations to quality control. I recently introduced the concept of continuous integration/delivery to institutionalize agile best practices of high unit testing coverage, test/build automation, configuration management, deployment pipelines et al. Under my supervision, a support policy for TO team was also devised which is being adhered to in order to sustain SLA based contracts using fervent usage of issue tracking system and well defined timing constraints (MTTR etc.).
I have played a major role in redefining the company vision. I worked closely with management to define company strategy and enumerate KPIs (key performance indicators) for all departments based on the vision and strategy. I revived employee key goals for my department in exact accordance to organizations' KPIs and linked them directly with their yearly performance appraisals. I was part of a three-member team that identified TOGAF-style target business/data/application technology architecture for the organization. The team also defined processes about details of stage-gating incoming projects according to agreed target architecture and peculiarities of implementation governance under the guidance of project management office (PMO). I constantly moderate the cherry-picking meetings (something similar to product-backlog grooming) with other department heads that select projects with most appropriate intermediate architectures for inclusion in development roadmap. A recent inclusion to my interests is ISO process engineering (9001 and 27001) and CMMI, which we are in early phases of implementing in our organization.
