My personality has a lot to do with where I am and what I am doing today. I love persuasive selling, have an intense distaste for waste in all its forms, love sharing what I know and believe in, enjoy chaotic puzzles and games, and I have a capacious memory for (and quick recall of) what I had always thought were useless bits and pieces of information.
As it turns out if you take a guy with those traits and run him through years of Tech Support type jobs so that he emerges with patience, and communication skills, he will excel in a Sales Engineering role. After a few years of selling an Agile Project Management tool he's going to walk away with a deep understanding of Agility and the frameworks, processes, and practices surrounding it. Now you accelerate things and make him teach 5 or 6 two day Scrum and Agile classes a month with a heavy sprinkling of coaching and consulting thrown in.
At that point you have me. A guy who has finally found that professional space that fit's his strange mix of personality and ability. A guy who not only enjoys doing it, but can excel at it. I'm enjoying the puzzles, the problems, the challenges, the teaching, the persuasion, and the debates inherent to the continual quest for improvement that is Agile Software Development, and I expect that passion will last the rest of my life.
