Agile leadership is a broad topic, currently without a shared definition or understanding. The Scrum Alliance Certified Agile Leadership program is an immersive exploration of building leaders to be effective in complex, uncertain, and rapidly changing conditions.

In this course, you review the prevailing research-driven models that describe high performing organizations, and apply them to your organization. This learn-by-doing training also provides attendees with an opportunity to share their reports with their peers, in order to discuss, analyze, and share feedback for team learning.

This training is led by Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Trainers (CSTs), each of whom have their own Scrum Alliance-approved approach to meeting the Learning Objectives required for certification, as such, each delivery may vary slightly.

Education credit:

  • The program will also qualify for 16 PMI PDUs and 16 Scrum Alliance SEUs

Pre-course preparation:

  • There will be a pre-class self-assessment to be completed.
  • Clear your schedule to be fully present during the training hours; if a participant misses more than 30 minutes of the class, they will not be eligible to be certified. Should your schedule prevent you from attending the entire class, our team will work with you to schedule another class on a different date.

Certification Information:

  • There is no exam. There are instead, 2 levels with requirements to be met for certification. Level 1 includes the advanced education. Level 2 requires attendees to document and share their experience in a CAL Experience Report and receive external validation of the documented practice and learning. This will be explained further during the workshop portion of the training.
  • The Certified Scrum Trainer, leading your class, will register your attendance with the Scrum Alliance, after which you will receive an email from them with your certification.

What is the difference between Agile Leadership and Certified Agile Leadership® (CAL)?

  • The two courses are independent of each other - you can take either or both - however, Course 3401, Agile Leadership, is a natural prerequisite training to the Certified Agile Leadership course. In Course 3401, you will use the Agile Leadership Framework to self-assess and then build your Agile behaviors toolkit. You will learn to embrace uncertainty, recognize root causes, apply different Agile methodologies, sharpen your influencing skills, and improve the work environment for Agile teams.
  • Continue your training in Course 1822, Certified Agile Leadership, which is focused on how to apply good leadership principles to support Scrum teams. It will dive in to the policies, procedures and structures needed to support Scrum (HR policies, purchasing, the role of functional and project managers, making the PMO into a Product support office, how to scale Scrum, etc.).
