About
My name is Shawn Garner and I have been practicing scrum since early 2010. I began learning and adopting scrum as the company I worked for started to transition from a traditional waterfall method to agile methodolgies. During this transition I worked as the product proxy for the operations team for the project I was on.
As time continued scrum became more and more prevalent and while working as the product proxy within the development teams for operations I started to transition our internal development to scrum. I assumed the role of the scrum master conducting the scrum meetings and prioritizing the backlog with the help of others based on value. During this same period I acted as the product owner as this was a small internal project that had one developer, myself and one stakeholder. With scrum in place for this small team we were able to update an application for collection that typically took months to get an update and trim it down to a single month.
Following my time there I moved on to another company where I was instilled as the product owner over a team that developed products for use in marketing efforts. During my first few months, I was able to introduce more of the agile and scrum principles I had learned not only at my previous job but also during my scrum master training. In my year of being at this company, we have moved from the fringes of doing scrum to a much more organized format.
Since that time I worked on structuring the scrum efforts for the product owners that reported to me after being promoted, including starting scrum within the product owner team. I then moved on to a product owner position with a larger company running two scrum teams as the product owner.
