This course didn't feel like it had a beginning or end, it felt more like a stream of consciousness than a structured course meant to address a curriculum or series of topics. If anyone in the class had not taken other scrum courses (since this has no prerequisite) or done any reading on scrum before joining this course, they would not likely have left knowing much about scrum or how the Product Owner operates within the scrum framework. By lunch of day 1 all we had accomplished was introductions with each other and we had not even spoken about scrum. We did have informative links shared with us, a few slide presentations to digest at our own leisure that he briefly scrolled over and mentioned how we would have workshopped this in a previous version of the course that cost 1500. I hope to look back over that content and pick up something from it. The course overall was not particularly engaging between breakout groups. The "presentation & instruction" tended to be a series of personal stories with occasional company name drops that meandered into one another while mixing metaphors. It was hard to follow and then would abruptly stop with a question or brief instruction that wasn't entirely clear who was being address of what was being asked of them. Whenever we went into a breakout group it felt like half of us didn't understand the task due to instructions being unclear. Every new group I was in had someone unprompted say "It was hard to follow him" which meant I wasn't alone feeling this. There were also a series of topics that felt a bit uncomfortable. He asked if we'd ever been "b*tch slapped by a screen share", and there was commentary relating Disney to a "shit eating grin". Just seemed to be lacking professionalism.

I am reviewing strictly the instructor here, as I believe the course material is very valuable. Aaron as an instructor was difficult to follow, and strayed off topic often. The activities were not fully explained before breakout rooms started, and we never had any agenda or syllabus to follow. Our activities consisted of one product built over two full days, but none of the diagrams/charts/processes were explained or related to real world work. In more than one occasion Aaron was back from break 5 minutes early and was already speaking before the rest of the group joined up again, so either he needed to repeat himself, or students missed out on the beginning of another anecdotal story. I feel that I need to do more reading and learning on my own to understand the fundamentals of Product Ownership before I am willing to apply for jobs in this field or add the badge to my resume. Product Owners as a part of a Scrum team do valuable work for the project and the sprint, so I'm sure the course would have been more worthwhile with a different instructor.

This is the second course I've taken with Aaron Sanders. The first was the Scrum Master certification course. The information was well laid out and the exercises were helpful for achieving an understanding of looking at it from the Product Owners perspective. I will recommend this course and Aaron as an instructor to anyone interested in the Scrum curriculum.

The material was excellent, and the coach explained everything clearly, taking the time to slow down when necessary. However, I found it challenging to grasp the concepts—this is just how I learn. In my view, others may grasp and apply these concepts effectively with only a high-level explanation, but this is not the case for me. I will need to seek additional training to fully understand the outputs and the way of working.
