Lewis Jardine

Lewis describes himself as a 'Software Engineer' with equal stress on both words. His career has been long and varied starting with a PhD in digital image processing for the MOD after graduating. He followed this with several years of teaching at University were he started to hone his communication and leadership skills in addition to his technical ones. In 1998 he made the move into industry as a development team leader where he introduced and pushed software engineering best practices which lead him to XP and Agile in 2000. He has been doing this ever since, first as a team leader, then as a project manager and now as a development manager. He has been developing software for over 25 years and is a strong advocate of Agile methodologies. Initially as a developer/team leader because they are the most natural, least cumbersome and stress software engineering best practices, but more recently as a Scrum Master and now Agile Development Manager because Agile is more dependable and doesn't save all the unpleasant surprises up until just before delivery. When not working or learning, Lewis likes to keep fit on his mountain bike (he hates running) and he loves to ski when given the chance. He also enjoys sailing but rarely gets to do so. His other leisure activities include reading science fiction, films and enjoying a small amount of good real ale, fine wine or single malt scotch whisky.
