John Johnston

John Johnston is the Founder and Managing Director of Human Resource Management Solutions. This organization specializes in assisting organizations with the implementation of technology from a Project Management and Organizational Change Management perspective.  

John has extensive experience in the field of human resources consulting. His primary focus is Organizational Design and Operational Alignment. He has strong skills in business measurement, business case development, organizational change management and project management in Information Technology. John's background includes advising clients on the design and implementation of corporate, individual, and team change programs.

John is an accomplished Project Manager and a Certified Scrum Master experienced in the use of Agile Methodologies and Joint Application Design (JAD). John has worked with a number of major corporations in both the US and Canada in the restructuring of organizations and the development of shared services. In addition to his North American activities, he has worked on global projects in the UK, Malaysia and the Caribbean. Past employers include Westcoast Energy, Dominion Glass, Bank Of Montreal, National Trust Company, Ernst & Young, Computer Science Corporation and ARINSO International. His clients have included such organizations as HSBC Bank, JP Morgan, Sun Life of Canada (USA), the Government of Canada, Kaiser Permanente, Bell Canada, Bay Area Rapid Transit District. Research in Motion, Direct Energy and Dofasco Steel.

John has a BA from McMaster University and was accorded the designation CHRP from the Human Resources Professionals Association of Ontario in 1994. He also has the designation of Project Management Professional from the Project Management Institute and is a Certified Scrum Master through the Scrum Alliance.

John is a frequent author and much sought after speaker on human resource & technology issues in organizations. He has developed and taught a number of courses for both professional associations, educational institutions and for profit organizations.

 In June of 2003, John was awarded IHRIM's first Award of Excellence for his contributions to IHRIM. He also won the 2007 Outstanding Performance Centered Design Solution Award for the ProCarta Pandemic Planning Solution from EPSScentral LLC
