This two day course provides not only a solid grounding in the fundamentals of Scrum, it puts the theory into action through a number of hands-on activities.

This course is about much more than just following a process. It is about how to collaborate effectively in a multi-disciplinary team, how to maximise business value and how use an empirical approach to continuously refine both the product and the process itself. It is also about insights into the nature of successful software development, understanding why Scrum works and how to use it to succeed in challenging environments with high levels of change, uncertainty and complexity.

Participants will gain hands-on practice with the Product Backlog, the Sprint Backlog, agile estimation techniques and the whole Scrum cycle through a "59-minute Scrum" exercise.

The course concludes with participants being enrolled as Certified ScrumMasters which includes a one-year membership with the Scrum Alliance where additional Certified ScrumMaster-only material is available.

About the Trainer

Rowan Bunning is a Certified Scrum Trainer able to offer follow-on assistance to Scrum teams as an independent consultant. He is a pioneer of Scrum in Australia having learned about it in 2003, become one of the first Certified ScrumMasters in February 2005 and the country's first Certified Scrum Practitioner in October 2006. He has a strong relationship with Europe's first Certified Scrum Trainer with whom he has studied, consulted and co-trained.

Rowan has worked in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland as an Agile Coach with one of Europe's leaders in Scrum: Conchango (now EMC Consulting). In addition to Scrum training and retrospective facilitation, Rowan played a hands-on ScrumMastering role on the development of a major new web property for one of Ireland's leading media organisations. This project involved distributed development between the U.K., Ireland and Romania. The website and online business were launched on time and on budget for a happy customer in June 2008.

Previous to Conchango, Rowan spent over 10 years at an innovative private software development company in Canberra where he led an organisation-wide transition to Scrum and eXtreme Programming. His work was almost equally divided between bespoke applicationsdevelopment and product development. During this time, Rowan spoke at several conferences in Europe and North America including the London Scrum Gathering in 2007.

Rowan holds a Bachelor of Information Technology degree from the University of Canberra. He is highly involved with the Australian Agile community having founded a successful Agile SIG supported by the Australian Computer Society and NICTA. He has a strong technical background in web development and Smalltalk (the development environment used for the first Scrum and XP projects). Rowan is motivated by the level of waste and inefficiency he sees around software development projects in many organisations and believes that there is enormous potential to improve business value and team productivity through Agile methods.
