Biography

Bill Fairfield is a Certified Scrum Professional, with additional certifications as a Certified ScrumMaster and a Certified Product Owner.  I have managed a small consulting and training company for the past 25 years that specializes in helping organizations transition to Agile, and in Acceptance Test Driven Development.  I have served as a ScrumMaster, Product Owner, Developer, in addition to assignments in which I acted as a coach or trainer.  I have developed and delivered 4 Scrum courses:  one each for ScrumMasters, Product Owners, Managers and Development Teams.  I have also developed and teach courses in Acceptance Test Driven Development (ATDD) in both Ruby and Java using Cucumber.

Our client list includes Fortune 500 companies, government agencies as well as smaller companies.

I have three children.  My daughter is a Ball State Univeristy graduate, and my oldest son is a sophomore at Purdue.  My youngest boy is about to start his senior year in high school.  When not with my children, my favorite past time is taking my two black labs down to the river and watching them romp in the water.

Work experience

NeuralWorks, Product Owner, Trainer
December 2014 - Present, Oakville, Ontario, CA
Worked with NeuralWorks to develop and deliver customized Agile courses for Discover Financial. Discover has a unique implementation of Scrum, with very non-standard terminology and some practices and approaches that are evolving as their transition to Agile continues. Constant changes in the client practices created a large backlog of required changes and additions to the course material. Maintaining the backlog in priority order in the face of ever-changing client priorities was a constant challenge!

Accenture, Coach and ScrumMaster
May 2012 - September 2015, Columbus, OH
Accenture runs a new college grad on boarding program for the IT department of a major financial institution. The 6 week program includes lecture and a real world project, and is intended to acclimate new hires to the realities of developing and maintaining large scale applications in a heavily regulated environment. Scrum is a key component of the program, and the projects are completed using Scrum. I have served as an instructor and Agile Coach on this program for 6 conducts over the past 4 years. I listed the location as Columbus because half of the sessions have been held there, but I also participated in this program in New York (twice) and London. Rather than list each conduct separately, I am putting them all together in one. Total Scrum experience is 4 months.

Fairfield & Co, Developer, Trainer
September 2012 - August 2014, Crawfordsville, IN, US
Developed, maintained and delivered custom courses on Scrum and Java.

Fairfield & Co, Product Owner
September 2012 - August 2014, Crawfordsville, IN, US
Served as the Product Owner on this job to develop a complete client management software application for our company. This was a background project at the company, so people were assigned to it on a part time basis, when there was no revenue-generating work available. Total Scrum experience: About 12 months

AgileWorks, Coach
July 2010 - November 2010, Honolulu, HI, US
Worked as a Scrum Coach on a project to develop a web-based proposal generator for a solar power company. Introduced several technologies and approached in addition to the use of Scrum, including TDD, JUnit, CI with Hudson, MySQL and Glassfish.
