About
Alan Ettlin , PhD, CSM, CSPO, CSP
Alan is a dedicated professional who truly believes in the benefits of Scrum. Alan has a background of software engineering starting with the equivalent of a Master’s degree from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETHZ) and further pursued by obtaining a PhD in robotics (thesis title “rigid body dynamics simulation for robot motion planning”) from the second Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), in Lausanne.
In his professional life, Alan has worked for a number of companies, mainly focussing on software development for industrial, technological and scientific applications. Examples include the implementation of a highly customised Manufacturing Execution System (MES) for a foods and beverages company, a rock-slide simulation for a civil engineering research institute and a real-time hardware-in-the-loop lift simulator for an elevator company. Currently he is developing a cable car engineering application for a major international player in that industry.
Early in 2008 he introduced Scrum into a long-running (7 years by then) insurance project. Since then he has successfully used Scrum in all projects he has run, gaining an ever stronger conviction that this is the preferred way to develop software.
