Melvin Pérez-Cedano

I’m a Software Engineer with 25+ years of experience. I currently work as Senior Technical Fellow at Construx, where I develop and provide training and consulting services that help teams to accelerate software delivery. Over the last nine years, I have delivered over 250 live training sessions worldwide with an average overall satisfaction rating of 4.5 out of 5. I have also guided executives and internal coaches in major Agile adoptions/transformations providing them a successful start and a platform for continuous improvement.

Prior to joining Construx, I was founder and VP of Engineering at CAM Informatica, where I developed core components and ledt he architectural design of the two main software products. I led the creation of a software engineering culture, driven by continuous improvement and empowerment, in an environment where "code-and-fix" was the norm. With the help of the great leaders that emerged, I took the organization from a chaotic environment to a CMMI-rated organization—first in the Caribbean. Along with this recognition, CAM became the first Microsoft Gold Certified Partner in the Dominican Republic.

A common denominator in my career has been a great appetite for learning, applying, teaching and mentoring on leading software development practices. I have done this not just internally within my employers, but also as a volunteer in the community. I created and chaired the first IEEE Computer Society chapter in the Dominican Republic with the intent of promoting software professionalism in the country. As a chapter, we accomplished this mission via workshops and conferences with renewed international speakers; we inspired the academia to start offering BS on software engineering. I also became an IEEE Distinguished Speaker for Latin America, which allowed me to expand my mission of sharing my knowledge and experience on software engineering best practices.
