Steve Huang is an Information Technology DevOps/SRE professional. I'm a believer of Agile in Operations, Security and Engineering, recognizing the importance of management support and sponsorship. Being a CSM, CSPO, CSD, CSP-SM, CSP-PO, CSP-D, and CAL enables me to properly align and facilitate transformations at companies that I have had the honor to serve.
I started my Agile journey not knowing what was Scrum was. Sad to admit, I was clueless and didn’t understand nor saw the benefit. Part of the reason for that perception was observing companies with improperly implemented Scrum practices. I’m sure you have heard of Scrum-Fall. It was just hard for organizations to let go of waterfall as it’s been a mainstay for decades. With PMP’s, everything was still tied to absolute time, fully planned out projects from beginning to end, rigid, and obsolete by the end of the project. Sure, they used Scrum terminology, but not the practices and frameworks.
Everything changed when I was blessed by having executive management sponsorship to implement Scrum. The entire company was educated on Agile frameworks. Engineering was trained on Scrum while Operations was trained on Kanban. Being in DevOps of both worlds, I had the opportunity to learn both. It was a new concept. Foreign to say the least. In due time, I saw the power of Scrum and the efficiencies that it could achieve. I fell in love with Scrum and it’s been my passion since then.
