Valerio created a really engaging learning environment that also closely mimicked what we could expect to see in our work environment as Scrum Masters. I'll admit that there were times where I didn't feel there was a lot of guidance being given but later realized that may have been by design to allow us as students to become our own self-organizing team (which was one of the key points the course pointed out for a Scrum Master). I also liked how intentional Valerio was in incorporating the feedback students provided. We asked for more quizzes and Valerio responded the next day by adding a quiz to the end of each section we covered. This was honestly one of the best course experiences I've had and a large part of that is because of how well-prepared Valerio was and how easily he presented the information. I honestly didn't know how well the course would prepare me for the exam but happy to report I was able to pass on my first attempt. I'd say as long as you stay fully engaged throughout the course and have access to all the course material provided then you'll be good to go.

In addition, the class materials, homework and pre-class materials were all concise, useful and provided the participants with everything needed to not only complete the course successfully but also to complete obtaining the certification and provided paths forward to further career development.

In this Certified Scrum Master (CSM) class you learn the Scrum framework, the Agile Manifesto, how to be an effective Scrum Master, and practical techniques to use Scrum in a work environment for any project. We cover all the learning objectives for the CSM exam and certification, and more. Participants also learn in-depth practices and frameworks that Scrum Masters, Agile Coaches, or anyone interested in using Scrum effectively can apply with a Scrum team.
This class spans 4 weeks, with live sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evening (7pm to 9pm EST), and some take-home exercises to practice what we learn in class.

Attendance and expectations
The class is designed to be collaborative and interactive. We invite you to participate in all activities and exercises as this will provide you the most value and will prepare you for the certification exam.
We understand that family distractions and work commitments may take you away from the class momentarily. That's OK, and we will work around these. However, the expectation is for attendance in full to the class and its activities. If you miss more than 30 minutes you may not qualify for the certification. If you have anything already planned that creates a conflict with this requirement, please let the instructor know ahead of time so you can discuss best ways to address any issue and still get the most out of the class.
System requirements
All you need is a working computer, a reliable Internet connection, a camera, and a microphone. Please plan on joining the class from a comfortable and quiet location as many activities will require using an online collaboration tool and group discussions.
CSM exam and certification
Upon completion of the class and all required learning objectives, the trainer will load all the participants' email addresses into the Scrum Alliance's website. You will receive an email to create an account (if you don't have one already) and then take the exam. The exam is online, on your computer. You will have 90 days to take it. It's composed of 50 questions, with a minimum passing score of 70%. More information on the exam is available on the Scrum Alliance website, including a downloadable PDF guide to the exam.
This Certified Scrum Master class takes participants through a series of interactive exercises where you can learn and apply first-hand the principles of Scrum. The goal of the class is to learn in-depth the Scrum framework and prepare participants for the CSM certification exam.
Agile: the Agile Manifesto, Agile VS Waterfall, the mirage of productivity, Agile planning
Practices: prioritizing your work, establishing a Definition of Done, refinining your Backlog, collaborating with the Product Owner and the Organization, monitoring progress and increasing productivity, technical debt, servant leadership, estimation and planning
You will learn how Scrum exists in a larger organizational context, and how it differs from traditional Waterfall approaches. You will also learn the importance of the Scrum Master within an organization to act as a servant leader, support the team, and drive an Agile transformation.
This class is aligned with the learning objectives of the latest Scrum Guide and the CSM exam.
Going beyond the CSM exam
In addition to learning the foundational elements of Scrum, I want for you to leave the class empowered with the knowledge and the confidence of using Scrum on a real project. You will gain a practical understanding of the roles, artifacts and events of Scrum, via hands-on exercises, discussion, fun games, and simulations.
I run this class in 2 or 3 Sprints. Each Sprint, you will define a Sprint Backlog at Sprint Planning, conduct Daily Scrum, and conclude the Sprint with Sprint Review and Retrospective. You will learn by doing, and we practice Scrum by using it within our class.
Also, participants typically come from a variety of experiences. Those that come to learn Scrum, and those that already have experience with it and come to gain a deeper understanding of how to use if effectively. This variety of experiences makes the class richer and allows us to delve into concepts, best practices, and Scrum patterns that go beyond what is needed for the CSM exam, and that give you the expertise you need to be successful in real life.
Become a Scrum Master
I also run an experiential program called "Become a Scrum Master". This program gives you the real-life experience of acting as a Scrum Master on a real Scrum team while managing a real project. The program spans 5 weeks, where you will run 5 sprints and work on a real project using Scrum.

There is no required prior certificate, educational background, or work experience needed to participate in the CSM course, complete the exam, and receive the certification. A few pre-class reading materials are provided before the class starts to get you acquainted to new concepts and applications of Agile and Scrum.
