About the trainer

This class is led by Valerio Zanini, CST, CSM, CSPO and CPIT. Formerly a Director of Product Development at Capital One where he led several Scrum product teams and launched new multi-million dollar digital products. Now a Certified Scrum Trainer (CST) with Scrum Alliance and a Certified Product Innovation Trainer (CPIT) with Spark Engine, he is the author of Deliver Great Products That Customers Love and co-author of Sprint Your Way to Scrum.

Valerio has more than 20 years of professional experience spanning software development, system integration, agile transformation, design thinking, and product innovation. He helps organizations worldwide adopt Scrum, improve product development practices, and increase productivity. He provides consulting and training to organizations of any size, helping them become more innovative with Agile, Scrum, SAFe, product management, and Design Thinking practices.

When he was a Capital One where he led digital product development initiatives for retail bank and transformed how customers interact with bankers. One of his projects was presented at Dreamforce 2017 as the largest Salesforce implementation in the Financial Services industry to-date. Together with his team, Valerio launched the MVP in market in just 4.5 months by adopting Scrum practices and focusing on key priorities. 

He is a Certified Scrum Trainer (CST), a SAFe Program Consultant (SPC), and a Kanban Management Professional (KMP II). As a Certified Product Innovation Trainer (CPIT), he teaches the master-level class Certified Product Innovation Professional (CPIP) with Spark Engine.

I have covered the role of Product Owner and led product teams at companies large and small, including Capital One (top-10 bank in the US) and Goozex (the company I co-founded which grew to become the largest online trading system for video games in North America). I have taught and coached product teams at companies of all sizes, from startups to Fortune 100 including Capital One, Walgreens, eBay, McKesson, Wesco, and HP.

I bring real life experience from having built, designed, and managed digital products in a variety of industries, and having coached Product Management and Scrum teams at different stages of their development journey. I have been there, done that, and I share the experience with you to make for a more effective and realistic learning experience.

This class is taught over 3 half-days (5 hours each) to minimize the impact on your work day, and also give you more time to absorb concepts and maximize the learning experience.You also get one private coaching sessions included in the registration to help you implement what you learn, become an effective Product Owner, and improve your team's productivity. 

As a trainer, I am a Certified Scrum Trainer (CST) with Scrum Alliance and a Certified Product Innovation Trainer (CPIT) with Spark Engine. I have also completed advance training programs for instructors and coaches, including Training from the Back of the Room (TBR) and Landmark Self-Expression and Leadership Program (SELP).

Attendance and expectations

The class is designed to be collaborative and interactive. We invite you to participate in all activities and exercises as this will provide you the most value and will prepare you for the certification exam.

We understand that family distractions and work commitments may take you away from the class momentarily. That's OK, and we will work around these. However, the expectation is for attendance in full to the class and its activities. If you miss more than 30 minutes you may not qualify for the certification. If you have anything already planned that creates a conflict with this requirement, please let the instructor know ahead of time so you can discuss best ways to address any issue and still get the most out of the class.

System requirements

All you need is a working computer, a reliable Internet connection, a camera, and a microphone. Please plan on joining the class from a comfortable and quiet location as many activities will require using an online collaboration tool and group discussions.

CSPO certification

Upon completion of the class and all required learning objectives, the trainer will load all qualified participants' email addresses into the Scrum Alliance's website. You will receive an email to create an account (if you don't have one already) and see your CSPO certificate. There is no exam.

Cancellation policy

Cancellation requests submitted at least 7 business days or more prior to the start of the course are entitled to a full refund (minus eventual Eventbrite fees). Students submitting cancellation requests less than 7 business days prior to the start of the course will be offered a credit toward a future course of equivalent value within one year, or a refund of 50% the amount paid for registration. No shows on either day of the class receive no refund. Should the organizer cancel the course for any reason, each registered student will be issued a full refund.

What you will learn

This class teaches Product Management techniques that can be applied to any project, with a focus on an Agile and Scrum context. You will learn in-depth practices and tools to become an effective Product Owner and effectively execute your role within the Scrum framework.

This training course takes participants through a series of interactive simulations based on a real product idea. Prerequisites

There is no required prior certificate, educational background, or work experience needed to participate in the CSPO course. The Certified Scrum Product Owner course is designed to introduce you to the key practices of developing a product, and as such all backgrounds are welcome to join and achieve the Scrum Product Owner certification.

A few pre-class reading materials are provided before the class starts to get you acquainted to new concepts and applications of Agile and Scrum.

A working computer with microphone and camera is needed to connect via Zoom and participate. The camera is required to be on for the entire class. Full participation in the class is required for certification.
