Work experience

Commerce Bank, Agile Coach/Trainer
November 2013 - Present, Kansas City, Missouri, US
I currently fill the role of Agile Coach and Trainer at Commerce Bank. In this roll I have co-developed agile training materials and teach training classes/workshops for Introduction to Scrum, Agile Estimation and Planning, Agile Scrum Boot Camp, and Product Visioning Story Mapping.

In this capacity I have taught the Scrum framework with a full blown boot camp to over 500 employess and coached multiple teams.

Half of my time is spent on Agile training the other half on coaching Scrum Masters and their teams to more effectively use Scrum to iterate work to deliver valuable, working product.

I would describe my roll as an Agile Champion influencing and driving a large scale Agile transformation. The greatest impact I have had in this role is helping teams (within and outside of IT) reorganize the way they are structured and begin adopting and living the Agile Manifesto, Principles and incorporating the Scrum philosophy. Our company has gone from a handful (literally) of agile practitioners to hundreds adopting Scrum. This due in large part to my efforts training and coaching at all levels from employee contributor to executives within the corporation... helping individuals, teams, and departments (including teams outside of IT like marketing) live the agile philosophy and use the Scrum framework for success.

Commerce Bank, Agile Program Manager
November 2012 - November 2013, Kansas City, MO, US

In these roles I follow the servant leader model to coach scrum teams to success. I perform all activities related to sprint planning, retrospectives, coordinate demonstrations, and most importantly - protect the team by aggressively removing impediments and partnering with the product owner. I lead the team focusing on continuous improvement and manage all aspects of project reporting. I lead an effort to help other teams and project managers to transition from a traditional waterfall structure to Scrum, including the training of Product Owners and the collaborative effort that is required for successful agility.

I participate as a key member of the Agile Focus Group - a group centered on advancing agility in the organization. I also participate in a user group - the Agile Forum, and in a community scrum group - AgileKC (Kansas City Agile and Scrum Group), serving the greater Kansas City area.
