Mike Christensen

A Lead Business and Systems Analyst with end to end experience of agile (Scrum) and waterfall development methodologies. I have been trained on and successfully utilised a wide range of analysis and UML techniques (use case, activity diagrams, state machine, class diagrams) to analyse business processes and requirements and deliver successful solutions for complex business problems. 

Starting as a Graduate Trainee in IT Development I moved between IT Development Teams to gain experience supporting different areas of the business and worked as both an analyst and programmer (VB.Net, VB6, C).  During this time and the subsequent years after the graduate programme I worked on numerous system enhancements and new developments as a programmer and an analyst.

Following a promotion to Lead Business Systems Analyst I now lead a team of analysts to deliver work packages that make up the biggest system redevelopment programme the Open University has seen to date. The programme aims to redevelop the University's curriculum and student information system; I lead analysts who work on the curriculum and study support work packages. 

My primary role has been as lead analyst and proxy product owner gathering requirements and designing a system to support new student support processes and teams to be implemented in February 2014. The system uses the OU's data warehouse to provide data about student's activities and behaviours for the purpose of monitoring progression and initiating system generated interventions based on low performance or vulnerability to improve student retention and completion rates.
