About
I started off my career in England as a developer working on the Y2K bug all those years ago.
In the mid 2000's I took a few years off to become a photographer in Austria. Whilst there I met my wife and moved back to her homeland of Cape Town, South Africa.
I first learned of Agile and Scrum in 2008 when we tried unsuccessfully to introduce it to the development team I was working in as a Systems Analyst. We knew the current waterfall methods were not working, but we also couldn't quite work out how Scrum was supposed to work either. Eventually we managed to make a mish mash 'Wagile' or 'Scrumfall' approach which was better than what we had, but still didnt quite work.
Later on I joined Unboxed Consulting who are Agile specialists in all they do. Agile runs through the whole philosphy of the company, and its here that I learned how to properly implement Scrum. I have been working with agile methodologies since 2010 and I believe seeing the worst of waterfall implementations before that has helped me to appreciate what agile is all about.
I then joined Intervate as the next step in my career as a Scrum Master to help them move from a waterfall based approach to an agile approach. In this role I am not only Scrum Master, but a Product Owner and then became an Agile Coach as I progressed.
I also volunteer as a committee member for the Scrum User Group of South Africa. We organise monthly meetups for guest speakers and monthly lean coffee's held in 2 locations in Cape Town. We also organise a Coaching Retreat and a Regional Scrum Gathering annually.
