Heather Leigh has more than 20 years of Public Relations experience working in Media Relations, Public Affairs, Strategic Communications, Charitable Giving, Corporate & Government Affairs, Internal & External Commuications, Community Education and Outreach. She also has experience in Event Planning, Public Awareness Campaigns and Crisis Communications. Heather's past work experience includes time as a radio DJ, TV News Anchor, Reporter Producer, Writer and Editor. She spent more than a decade working disasters across the United States while working for The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and spend several years in Corporate PR before starting her own PR firm. Heather is a gradutate of Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado. She has a bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts with a major in Journalism and a minor is Speech Communications. Heather joined Scrum Alliance as the Public Relations and Communications Director in June of 2014.

The Public Relations & Communications Director will have a “nose for news” and serve as the go-to person for all press inquiries and public relations needs. Director will be a key driver for developing a sound public relations program and productive relationships with a variety of industry bloggers, media contacts, and publishers. Director will be part of a multi-functional team offering collaborative support to help get the Scrum Alliance’s message seen and heard around the world. Responsibilities Traditional PR Activities • Develop a comprehensive PR strategy for the organization • Identify opportunities for press releases • Identify and pitch story ideas to bloggers, editors, journalists and publishers in various industries • Write, distribute and track pick-ups of press releases and stories • Develop and post to the website an online press kit and other supporting materials • Respond to inbound press inquiries • Help coordinate and publicize webinars and noteworthy new content, such as special reports or Scrum success stories • Invite industry bloggers, editors, journalists and publishers to Scrum Alliance’s Global Scrum Gatherings® and coordinate interviews with the CEO, VPs, and other spokespersons as appropriate • Coordinate efforts with Global Scrum Gathering® keynoters’ public relations professionals • Coordinate media events to unveil new offerings, such as new education programs Outreach to Key Markets • Develop a plan to raise visibility of Scrum Alliance and Scrum among the employer and educations markets, with other markets to follow • Promote and publicize special events, webinars, and content for specific markets, audiences, and personas Support CEO and Staff • Support CEO’s speaking events, helping develop presentations given at Scrum industry events • Contribute to the monthly e-newsletter sent to members • Provide writing and/or editing support for internal communications, such as emails to VIP members • Provide writing and/or editing support for events where Scrum Alliance is an event sponsor (ex. brief sponsor descriptions) Key Experience: • Minimum of 5 years PR experience, with strong writing skills • Experience in related fields, such as technology, software development, Agile or Scrum • Demonstrated success in managing and executing public relations tactics • Hands-on experience with PR tools/systems for managing lists, tracking responses and distributing media alerts • Skilled in tracking, measuring and reporting PR metrics • Successful experience with pitching story ideas to bloggers, journalists and editors • Self-starter with an intrinsic desire to continually learn and incrementally improve his/her work • Strong time management skills • Strong ability to work on a virtual team • Strong presentation creation skills, including PowerPoint • Willingness to become certified in Scrum
