About
Born in Southern Illinois, I received my BS in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Illinois-Urbana/Champaign where I also played on the rugby team. My graduate degree at University of Texas-Austin (MS ME) was in engineering Robotic Assembly Systems.
Starting my career at IBM I developed over a dozen robot work cells, wrote computer code, designed and specified mechanical, electrical, and fluidic components and ensured overall system function. Subsequent medical device engineering experience has drawn upon this mechanical, electrical and software systems background and I have stayed technically active in all three areas.
I have specific management expertise in building high functioning teams, mentoring staff, and establishing collaboration across functions and sites. I am also deeply involved in the technical details of my projects. I have contributed significant ideas and systems solutions leading to seven patents.
Working with European and Asian business partners, I have demonstrated the ability to effectively build alliances and partnerships both developing products and manufacturing them in a global environment meeting medical device quality systems requirements.
I have developed and manufactured a diverse portfolio of products: computer mother boards, orthopedic knee and hip implants, surgical instruments, respiratory gas monitors, spectroscopy systems, oximeters and oximetry sensors, custom maxillofacial implants, disposable sets for blood apherisis, endocavity/transvaginal and transesophageal echocardiogram (TE) cardiac ultrasound transducers.
Outside of work, I love to travel and learn new skils. I obtained my international yacht skipper certification a few years ago. I recently got my advanced scuba diving certification, and currently I am working toward obtaining my private pilot's license.
