Technical Requirements

To participate fully in this interactive online course, you will need a stable internet connection, a webcam, a microphone, and the ability to use common online collaboration tools like Zoom. We may also utilize online whiteboarding tools (like Miro or Mural). More detailed information will be provided before class starts.

PDUs and SEUs

This course qualifies for Professional Development Units (PDUs) for PMP® certification renewal through the Project Management Institute (PMI), typically 14-16 PDUs for a 2-day course. It also qualifies for Scrum Education Units (SEUs) towards renewing your Scrum Alliance certifications.

A-CSPO Certification Details

There is no exam required for the Advanced Certified Scrum Product Owner® certification. To earn your A-CSPO:

  1. You must hold an active Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) certification with the Scrum Alliance.
  2. You must fully attend and actively participate in this entire A-CSPO course, demonstrating the learning objectives.
  3. You must log at least 12 months of Product Owner work experience (from within the last five years) on your Scrum Alliance profile.

Once you complete the course *and* have logged the required experience, Brian will recommend you for certification. You will then receive an email from Scrum Alliance prompting you to accept the A-CSPO license agreement on your profile. Completing the A-CSPO also extends your Scrum Alliance membership for 2 years from the date the A-CSPO is earned.

Key Learning Areas:

This Advanced Certified Scrum Product Owner® (A-CSPO) course builds upon your CSPO foundation, diving into advanced techniques for maximizing value and navigating complex product environments, including the influence of AI. Key areas include:

  • The PO as Value Driver: Exploring advanced stances (like Visionary, Collaborator, Influencer) and the Product Owner's crucial role in maximizing product value and achieving business outcomes.
  • Advanced Stakeholder Interaction: Mastering techniques for identifying, engaging, communicating with, and influencing diverse and sometimes challenging stakeholders effectively.
  • Complex Product Backlog Management: Advanced strategies for ordering, refining, forecasting, and aligning large or complex Product Backlogs with strategic product goals and outcomes.
  • Product Vision & Strategy: Developing, validating, communicating, and evolving compelling product visions and actionable strategies that guide the Scrum Team.
  • Product Discovery & Validation: Applying modern techniques for continuous product discovery, understanding customer needs deeply, and validating assumptions through effective experimentation.
  • Leveraging AI Strategically: Identifying opportunities and ethical considerations for using AI to enhance product discovery, market analysis, user insights, and decision-making as a Product Owner.

Learning occurs through strategic case studies, peer collaboration on complex problems, advanced practical exercises, and expert guidance on applying these concepts effectively back on the job.

Breaks & Q&A: The training day is structured to keep you energized and includes generous breaks. We typically incorporate a one-hour break for lunch around midday, along with two 15-minute breaks (mid-morning and mid-afternoon). Brian also typically stays online after the formal class ends for an optional open Q&A session for any lingering questions.

The Advanced Certified Scrum Product Owner® (A-CSPO®) course is designed for Certified Scrum Product Owners® (CSPOs) who have at least one year of hands-on experience working in a Product Owner role (or equivalent capacity) and are ready to deepen their strategic expertise.

This course moves beyond the fundamentals covered in CSPO®, focusing on advanced techniques for product strategy, value optimization, stakeholder engagement, and complex backlog management in the context of Agile and Scrum.

Scrum Alliance Prerequisites for A-CSPO® Certification:

  1. Hold an active Certified Scrum Product Owner® (CSPO®) certification with Scrum Alliance.
  2. Successfully complete this A-CSPO® educational offering (including active participation).
  3. Document at least 12 months of work experience specific to the Product Owner role (within the last 5 years) on your Scrum Alliance profile.

Note: You can attend the course before having the full 12 months of experience, but your A-CSPO certification will only be issued by Scrum Alliance once all requirements are met.

This course is particularly valuable for:

  • Experienced Product Owners seeking greater strategic influence and effectiveness.
  • Product Managers wanting to master Agile product management techniques.
  • Business Analysts taking on significant product backlog and strategy responsibilities.
  • Anyone pursuing the path to Certified Scrum Professional® - Product Owner (CSP-PO®).

Course Expectations & Participation

This Advanced Certified Scrum Product Owner® (A-CSPO) course is a highly interactive environment focused on deepening your strategic Product Owner skills. Your active participation, willingness to share your Product Owner experiences, and engagement with fellow participants are crucial for maximizing learning and meeting the A-CSPO learning objectives required for certification.

We expect all participants to:

  • Arrive on time for the start of the course and after breaks.
  • Remain fully present and engaged during all course activities, exercises, and discussions. This includes enabling your webcam throughout the live sessions as required by Scrum Alliance for virtual training.
  • Participate from a quiet environment conducive to collaborative learning, free from significant distractions.
  • You are expected to behave in a professional manner. Anything that would get you in trouble with your HR department could get you kicked out of this class as well.
  • It is expected that you will always treat your fellow students with respect. If we receive a complaint, we will investigate and if supported, we will take action and remove you from the class.

Attendance Policy: Due to the highly interactive nature of this course and Scrum Alliance requirements for live training hours, participants cannot miss more than 15 minutes of the total combined class time. Missing more than this allocated time will unfortunately require you to reschedule for a future course date to receive your certification (additional fees may apply based on our transfer policy).

We look forward to collaborating, sharing product experiences, and advancing our Product Ownership skills together!
