Our Certified Scrum Master Workshop is taught with a mixture of discussion, activities and a practicum that is designed to make the material “sticky”; so that you retain what you’ve learned. You will be engaged, learning and involved for the two days!

Trainer: Rick Waters (Certified Scrum Trainer)

Rick Waters is a veteran of the US Military, Customer Service, and Software Engineering. He chooses to bring his expertise in the area of Service to Others by joining Aleph Technologies as a Certified Scrum Trainer and Agile Coach. Rick’s strengths are focused on Scrum, Enterprise Scrum, Business Agility and Kanban. Rick has contributed to the success of some of the largest Agile Transformations in the Chicagoland area, since 2013. His dedication to service is underscored by his volunteer involvement in educating youths, and helping veterans re-enter the civilian workforce in national non-profit organizations.

Course Outline

We will learn:

  • Foundations of Agile Thinking - empirical process control, dynamic change and complex adaptive systems.
  • Understanding the Scrum Framework - overview of the roles, ceremonies, artifacts, tools and techniques of Scrum and the importance of feedback loops.
  • Scrum Roles A Deeper Dive - Exploration of the role of ScrumMaster as servant leader, working with the Product owner and Development Team, facilitating for results, and the relationship between good project management techniques and the Scrum framework
  • Leveraging the five levels Agile Planning - from vision to road mapping and release planning to sprint planning and daily planning/
  • The Care and Feeding of the Product Backlog - How do ScrumMaster’s support the Product Owner in creating and managing the product backlog? We’ll practice writing user stories and other good product backlog management techniques
  • Agile Estimating - The case for story points and how to help your teams get started
  • Sprinting - Facilitating the daily scrum and other ScrumMaster activities during the Sprint
  • Sprint Demo and Review - Aakash Srinivasan shares his practical experience at facilitating effective Sprint Reviews
  • Sprint Retrospectives - You will leave class understanding the importance of incremental improvement and the structure of a good retrospective.
  • Practicum: We will practice what we've learned by building a product increment using Scrum - right in class!

PREREQUISITES

There is no required prior certificate, educational background, or work experience needed to participate in the CSM course, complete the exam, and receive certification.The Certified Scrum Master course is designed to introduce you to the basics of Scrum, and as such all backgrounds are welcome to join and achieve Scrum Master Certification.


PDU/SEU

By attending the 2 day CSM course you will earn 14 PDU/SEU that can be applied towards further educational goals. To claim credits a code is provided at the end of the CSM course book.
