Sonya Spangelo

After finishing college with a Computer Science degree, an Accounting degree, and a Cisco Networking certification, I started working at a financial firm in their IT department in 1999. At that time, there were only 5 IT employees including me. We now have almost 90 IT employees and I am still here. After starting out in general IT doing Service Desk, Networking, and Systems duties for 3 years, I moved into the Application Development group. This is where I wanted to stay.

The creativity, problem-solving, and creation of applications that made co-worker's jobs easier and made our customers happy is what I enjoy. It's a very rewarding profession and as our team got bigger, we needed a means to keep our teamwork strong. I wear a lot of hats in my current position, but enjoy helping others succeed the most. Through self-learning the Agile and Scrum framework in 2012, I did my best to start incorporating it into our development environment, but knew I was missing key elements in my training to be truly Agile. So in 2020, I started earning my certifications through Scrum Alliance to better my skills and refine my understanding to be a better coach and servant leader. I oversee the workload of close to 20 people both in the states and international. I also train other departments to help spread the adoption of Agile using Atlassian tools across the enterprise.
