Olivia Montgomery

Hi! I'm Olivia Montgomery and I enjoy managing IT projects for one of the largest REIT and property management companies in the country, American Homes 4 Rent. As we are a publicly held company (AMH), our software development must be SOX compliant. We employ SCRUM and Agile methods for software implementations and enhancements, although we do leverage a waterfall approach for upgrades.

I don't have the expected background for one in my position. My college years were spent studying and obsessing over literature and linguistics. After grad school I taught business and technical writing at UNLV. Then I found myself wriitng for corporations and learned I've a knack for translating business-speak and nerd-speak. I believe my time exploring semantics, narratives, and the human experience via novels helped prepare me for this role. 

I'm currently managing my company's upgrade from Microsoft CRM version 2015 to 365, with a migration from FieldOne to Field Service. It's been quite an adventure! We're using several partners to make this upgrade as we don't employ software developers ourselves. I've found that while some partners are unfamiliar with SCRUM at hte beginning of the project, they come to love the quick value our business end users see and how much more on point their delivered work turns out.

My company is very quickly growing and maturing - so things can be quite hectic. To keep perspective and relax, I compete in show jumping with my horse, Gately's Windy Liam. We compete each month, so any time that I'm not at work, I'm at the barn.
