Guy Woolliams
About
My name is Guy Woolliams, and I recently started transitioning from my role as a QA developer on a Scrum Agile project development team to my new role as a Product Owner back in August of 2017 and switched full-time effective November 1 2017. I just completed my Product Owner certification training with Alluvial Consulting on November 23-24 2017. Prior to that I worked for six months as a QA developer and tester on a Scrum Agile Feature development team, during which time I served as a substitute Scrum Master and obtained my Scrum Master certification in April 2017 from Agile42.
Leading up to my time in QA I spent almost three years from April 2014 to February 2017 in Tier 2 technical support on our Client Success team at SSI (ShipConstructor Software Inc.), during which time our company transitioned to using Agile principles more consciously and more adeptly to develop a Scrum framework to change the way in which we worked. I was exposed to both Sprint and Kanban style methodologies during that time and felt that I contributed to helping turn a vision of a new way of doing software development into a more concrete reality that worked for SSI.
Prior to my life working with Agile at SSI (ShipConstructor Software Inc.), I spent 9 years with various software and hardware companies such as Nortel Research, eBay, T-Systems France for Airbus, WebTech Wireless, Design Maintenance Systems Inc. (DMSI) for the Canadian Coast Guard, and 3xLOGIC Engineering, with roles in customer, technical, QA, engineering support, and project and product management, as well as adult software training, where I used the skills gained after I returned to university to follow up my Bachelor's of Science in Physics from UBC with studies in Secondary Science - Physics education.
One of the biggest highlights of my career was to live and work in another language in French, which I have studied since the age of 3, in the south of France in Toulouse. Additionally, I have been lucky enough to work in Quebecois French giving software training courses to Marine Engineers, and I also got the opportunity to travel up north to Yellowknife, Hay River, and Fort Providence, Northwest Territories, Canada, for work done with the Canadian Coast Guard on preventative and predictive marine engineering systems.
Finally I am the recent proud father of a 2 year old daughter and I am a husband who likes to cook Thai food for my wife, as well as play soccer and swim in my spare time. I also played the cello for 13 years in my youth so I like to pick that up from time to time as well as polish one of the eight languages I have studied over the years.
