Biography

Gretchen grew up in Cincinnati, OH in large and diverse families of various races, religions, and socio-economic backgrounds. After attending School for Creative and Performing  Arts, and Walnut Hills she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Electronic Media from College Conservatory of Music. She spent the next several years in the music industry helping to make musicians into household names, and then moved into managing software development projects because rock starts are more alike than many realize! 

She expanded into Agile in 2010 and fell in love with the common sense, natural way of managing projects. She got certified as a Scrum Master in 2012 and uses her expereince with her diverse family, the arts, and media to help teams and business be agile. When she isn't technically working, she enjoys writing, hiking, doing voice overs, farming, and photography with her family. She also leads the Agile Knoxville group, works and lives on a small working farm, and uses Agile and Scrum in managing it and her husband's landscaping business.

I am the Scrum Master for a team of developers, one remote, as well as a team of QA and a Product Owner. We create software for the healthcare industry, primarily Physical Therapy, which is used in America, Canada, and Israel. I also help with implementing Agile/ Scrum with marketing as well as teaching the company about how Agile/ Scrum works so every department can incorporate things as needed.

I used Scrum and an Agile mindset to help manage freelance work doing technical writing, creating and implementing websites and marketing campaigns for various business, doing voice overs and on camera acting, plus an etsy shop and an urban farm!

Scrum Master for two teams in non-profit government sector. Had the pleasure of helping the TS department to more fully embrace Agile principles and worked with two of the teams to incorporate more Scrum principles and process methods into daily work process. I was also able to create and facilitate a two day Scrum Reboot workshop for the entire department.

Project manager for $1.6 million IT Infrastructure Overhaul project finished on time and under budget, plus project manager for multiple SharePoint projects. Achievements include: • Ensured all tasks were completed, helped team accomplish tasks through creative problem solving, management, and motivation. • Managed the budget for project, provided executive reports to CIO, and pay for contractors. • Created job description, hired, managed and supervised an assistant. • Managed and led daily Scrum meetings with team members and updated progress. • Attended all meetings with external and internal team members, identified tasks, priorities, and ownership. • Managed 600 plus task MS Project document and provided executive summaries. • Successful management of the first SharePoint projects, which led to the company winning a $12 million dollar contract by utilizing SharePoint functionality.
