Franz Hofer is head of Agile Coaches at Raiffeisenbank International AG (RBI), an international bank with head office in Vienna (Austria) and with subsidiaries in 15 countries. Franz is graduate of University of Vienna, where he received a Master of Science in Business Informatics. Franz launched his career in Alcatel Research Center as a research engineer for software engineering. He was a major contributor of the Alcatel group wide object oriented analysis and design method. He trained and coached different telecommunication projects in Austria and Germany. After four years he changed to Siemens Nixdorf AG to apply his knowledge in the development of software for financial industries. Here he has got the first experiences with agile. The team was using XP to develop very successfully a CRM software for a german bank. After five years Franz became head of IT of Raiffeisen Trade.Com, a company offering internet brokerage services. He successfully managed to insource the development of the trading software from an external vendor. The new internal development team was organized according to agile principles. Due to dotCom crisis the company was closed an Franz joined RBI as a senior for software engineering and methodolgy. Starting 2010 he introduced Scrum in the development process of RBI. In the first projects he worked as a Scrum Master. Afterwards he collected experiences as a Product Owner. After two years he changed to the role of an agile coach. Today he is leading a team of very senior agile coaches who support the bank in the transformation to an adaptive organization. Currently the main focus of Franz is to rollout the agile approach in the whole RBI group in different countries. The main challenge here is to convince senior management about the benefits of agile.
