Title: Head of Data Science and Analytics

Carlo is a thought leader with a record of successful teams built in digital product development, technology transfer and data analytics domains. He has a strong experience in Digital Transformation strategy design and implementation and he is an accomplished Data Scientist with experience ranging across various areas of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence.

Carlo holds a PhD in Informatics and Multimedia and a Master in Telecommunication Engineering from University of Florence and an Executive MBA from a joint program (TRIUM) between New York University, London School of Economics and Paris HEC.

Carlo started his career after his Master Degree as System Engineer in the Pharma industry. He then jumped on the .com train as Chief Technology officer for an e-commerce site (motorodie.com) which was a Deutsche Morgan Grenfell and Boston consulting Group.  After that, he started the Multimedia Innovation and Communication Centre (www.micc.unifi.it) at the University of Florence leading technology transfer projects. After completed his PhD in 2006 he worked on applied research at Simon Fraser University (Vancouver Canada) and University of Southern California (Los Angeles, CA) working on data, knowledge representation and pattern recognition. He then started the Ontology Development group within the Medical Informatics Organization at Oregon Health & Science University (Portland, OR) working on genomic data, undiagnosed diseases and biomedical resource representation and tracking.

After achieving the Assistant Professor rank Carlo decided to go back to industry and started the Data Science team at Tesla (Palo Alto, CA) in 2013 where he developed machine learning and data analysis approaches based on sensors data coming from cars to build predictive maintenance models and understand users’ behaviour.

After Tesla Carlo started the Data and Analytics team at Pirelli (Milan, Italy) as the first building block of the company Digital Transformation roadmap. In the almost four years Carlo stayed there he grew the Data Science and Analytics team and became also Director of Digital Product development leading an organization of more than 25 people and contributing to the creation of the “new” Pirelli which was successfully relisted in the market in 2017.

Since January 2018 Carlo is the Director of Strategy and Digital Ventures at FIFA within the Digital Transformation and Innovation Division where he leads a team of senior advisors exploring opportunities around data and adoption of new technologies such as Augmented and Virtual Reality, Blockchain, etc. with the goal enhance fans experience and keep football relevant for the foreseeable future.
