Hi there! My name is Chris Hoquis (pronounced like hocus pocus) and I've been an Information Technology professional for over 20 years. I began my career as a software developer, writing code for business applications in the Aviation industry back in 2007. I quickly found out that this was not my calling and lost interest, but was very fascinated by the overly talkative folk in the cubicles nearby that seemed to get all the credit for the code I wrote - Business Analysts!

I quickly learned everything I possibly could about business analysis until I transitioned into a BA role after 5 years as a developer. I found my calling and absolutely loved it - being able to solve problems, add value and most importantly interact with others was something that was really fulfilling.

I ended up watching the Social Network (movie about Mark Zuckerberg and how Facebook began) and told myself I wanted to learn more about business. I ended up going back to school full time, while still working as a business analyst and even moonlit as a bartender. On top of that, I was a volunteer basketball coach, which setup the foundation for everything I know about coaching, leading and/or managing a team.

What this culminated to was a discovery for a passion of academia, learning and connecting with people. The continuous drive to learn and relentlessly empathize towards others led into academia credentials, designations, lead roles, project management and a teaching role at the University of Manitoba. The biggest takeaway from all the accomplishments is that the nice certificates on the wall don't mean anywhere as much as the people that I met along the way. This is why I admire everything about Scrum and Agile and how its inherent values represent everything I believe in.

Respect, openness, courage, focus and commitment are values that don't suddenly get consumed overnight. You only consume these values when you truly connect with them in your own way and it's with my privileged honour that I get to facilitate, share and teach everything I know about Agile, Scrum and most importantly, bringing people together to make meaningful impact in their own way.
