Ben Liu
About
Ben Liu is a seasoned IT professional with more than 20 years of experience in Software development and IT administration. He still remembers the challenges he had when he was just out of graduate school in early 1990s and led a MIS project. His team followed the waterfall methodology and tried to find out and iron the requirements before they got started on implementation. At that time, most of the customers had just started using computer for office work, so it was not easy for them to know what they wanted and it was hard for him and his team to understand their requiements. The project didn't end well. He wish he had known agile at that time.
Over the years, he have worked in different roles in full cycle of software development, from system analysis to design, implementation and test for different industries. His experience of developing embedded software for mobile phone makes him really value automatic test, especially as a developer. He had to write a lot of automated test to make sure the code was good enough to be on chips.
He started using Scrum as a team member from 2009 when his company was transforming from waterfall to Agile. To facilitate the transformation he created the first in house build pipeline for continuous integration. This not only helped to improve productivity, but also helped to improve team cooperation. Later on he designed and implemented an automation test framework with Selenium, JUnit and Spring framework.
In 2016, he started working as a Scrum Master. In addition to mentoring team members on technical aspects, he also enjoys working on building a healthy team culture following Scrum guidelines. He strongly agrees on "To guide and inspire individuals, leaders, and organizations with practices, principles, and values that create workplaces that are joyful, prosperous, and sustainable." He hopes that he can help more teams to grow and build great products with fun during the rest of his career.
