About
Mike Lyons – Lean practitioner, Agile evangelist, and servant leader.
Mike began his career in technology on a Commodore 64, like most of his friends. In 2000 he earned his undergraduate degree in Information Systems and continues to serve as a technologist, servant leader and agile coach. Mike earned his Masters degree in Management and Leadership in 2016 and is currently the Sr. Director of Solutions Engineering at Compassion International. In the past, he has had various focuses - from systems administrator to systems analyst, business analyst to project manager, scrum master to product owner. Mike continues his training in Agile methodologies and Lean thinking, with a focus on using his leadership skills to effectively unlock the intrinsic motivation of knowledge workers with high energy, enthusiasm and fun.
Traditional development and project management methods have statistically proven ineffective over the past 20 years with some estimates as high as 68% IT project failure rate. Why would we keep doing the same repertoire of sitting with a customer who doesn’t really know what they want, trying to document that and then handing it to someone else, who hasn’t met the customer to build? By that time the customer has changed their mind! And to keep up with the speed of business, they likely should! We need a new way of thinking - a lean, agile approach that can scale to even the largest software development projects.”
