Randy Smith, Agile Coach, Hewlett-Packard's Technology Services R&D
As an Agile Coach in Hewlett-Packard’s Technology Services R&D organization, Randy focuses on “The Why” and “The How”. He coaches and mentors Scrum teams to better performance, teaches them the basics of Scrum and the more advanced nuances as well. He believes “The Why” is just as important as “The How”, because “The Why” gives us a guidepost to check against when we run into things that are out of our experience.
Randy works at both the team level and the executive levels when doing coaching, training, and mentoring. He’s trained, coached, and mentored vice presidents and developers, ScrumMasters and Product Owners. That training has helped them fill their roles more effective and become more active.
As a trainer, Randy has put on Ignite Talks and “brown bag” sessions on various topics, including user stories and story mapping. More formally, he’s taught the certified SAFe courses to dozens of students with great feedback.
During his career in the software industry, Randy has been a software engineer, system administrator, support engineer, ScrumMaster, and Agile Coach. He worked at Ford Motor Company, Hoechst Celanese, and Hewlett-Packard.
