Biography

I am an Agile advocate coming from a technical background and over 12 years of experience in Information Technology throughout different industries and a variety of positions. While working with a diverse set of teams on all kinds of software projects, one thing became very clear to me - if you want to deliver working and high quality software in a no non-sense way, Agile methodologies and especially Scrum or Kanban can be a key to success. I've helped teams successful transition from traditional Waterfall to Agile and Scrum. By allowing all stakeholders to understand the framework, providing leadership unfiltered and true transparency, and making this experience fun for the Scrum team, I was able to create a effective Scrum environment in which working software was successfully delivered. Having the proper mindset for valuing Agile and Lean principles as well as applying best practices are the cornerstones for being successful with Scrum. The ScrumMaster is an essential role as this person will have to create a healthy level of accountability amongst the team, not only on side of the Development team but also with the Product Owner. Harnessing best practices like a physical Scrum board, a smart Working Agreement, a Definition of Done, and a Definition of Ready will help the team together in the most efficient way. Information radiators can help understand each team's needs so that the proper coaching approach can be applied quickly and therefore anti-patterns corrected. Scrum is a simple framework which can be hard to apply if not done right. And always keep in mind - Rome wasn't built in one sprint.

Work experience

PayPal, Inc., Agile Program Manager / ScrumMaster
January 2014 - Present, Austin, TX, US
I am a Program Manager and ScrumMaster for a number of Scrum teams who are working on the consumer web experience for PayPal.com. My first priority at PayPal and within our group is to enable my Scrum team to get better at what they do by removing wasteful processes and empowering them to be more self-organized. I was able to transform my scrum team within 4 months from using bad practices and anti-patterns to being one of the most mature and self-organized teams in the PayPal Center of Excellence in Austin, TX. After focusing heavily on the team level execution and Scrum framework, I had to redirect my energy towards Agile Portfolio Management to satisfy the high demand for enterprise-level roadmapping and prioritization. Our teams work on highly visible and very exciting products which affect 160+ million users worldwide. That is one of the reasons why work at PayPal is extremely rewarding and why everyone is so appreciated. We impact lives all over the world, every day. PayPal has recognized Agile as the future of Software Development and made big investments to fully integrate the framework. I'm extremely excited to be part of PayPal in times of fast technological change, especially in the payments industry.
