Senior Project Manager, provalida GmbH

Certified ScrumMaster

Starting 1996 in a mid sized media and it-solution company and getting used to the first project processes (RUP, german V-Modell) I didn´t feel very comfortable in writing extensive documentation to try to match the customer requirements to get a statement from the customer to define his wishes for an new software solution. After both parties thought that they spoke the same language and understood each other the development began with no further involvement of the customers. For sure the software didn´t match all the requirements and had an inacceptable time to market.

The next job was project manager in a huge telecommunication company. The common project approach was a slightly changed PMI process and again I didn’t feel very comfortable while using it in customer projects.

Then I heard the first things about agile development and scrum in 2001. I read “Agile Software Development with Scrum” and thought that this might be the way to get more satisfied customers. Luckily the following project was perfect for an incremental development and short periods of development. We didn´t call this scrum, but we used some parts like user stories, daily meetings and regular involvement of the customers. And it worked!

Since this first project I tried to execute all following projects in a "scrum way" and got more experience in using the scrum framework. After having read further books and online documentation I finally got certified as scrum master.
