Lachlan is an independent coach and trainer. He has over twenty years of application development experience in delivery and leadership roles across many industries. He has deep experience in Coaching, Training, Product Ownership, Scrum Mastering, Project Management, Team Leadership, Scrum and Agile methods.

Starting in GIS Lachlan worked as a software developer before moving into Project Management and general management. He started to use an iterative approach in 2005 before reading about Scrum. The first time he used Scrum was a rough start when he terminated the Sprint in three days because half the team either left the company or were removed for other work. Things managed to get better after that first attempt.

Lachlan has worked in many of the major transformations in Australia including Telstra, Suncorp and CBA. Apart from enterprise companies he also works with organisations from startups to medium sized companies on their Scrum implementations. This work has involved consulting, training, delivery and coaching.

He was the founder of the Sydney Scrum User Group and is a key figure in the Scrum Patterns  project – a joint effort across the Scrum community to create a reference for the Scrum framework. This group includes two of the founders of Scrum, Jeff Sutherland and Mike Beedle.

Lachlan has taught classes on Scrum at the University of Technology in Sydney, is an advisor and speaker at the Agile Australia conference (one of the largest agile conferences in the world) and has been a speaker at other conferences, including Agile Portugal, Agile Tour Sydney, and Australian and New Zealand Solution-Focused Conference.

His love of learning lead him to complete the Masters in Coaching Psychology at the University of Sydney. Subsequent to this he has completed the Graduate Diploma in Psychology at Charles Sturt University. This has helped him to bring an approach to coaching based on the psychological evidence of what works in this domain.

In 2016 he founded Science of Teams to help bring an evidence based approach to understanding and working with teams. The organisations runs workshops where participants learn how to apply scientific research to the teams they are working with with.

Outside of the world of Scrum Lachlan provides organisational coaching services where he applies evidence based practice for individuals looking to change their lives and grow.
